1-2 year old female German Shepherd Cross available for adoption

Kyra is a 1-2 year old female German Shepherd Cross. She needs a new home so today I went over to meet her and I want to tell you her story so far. Kyra’s owner was advised on medical grounds to think about getting a dog to encourage a healthier lifestyle with plenty of exercise and fresh air.

He embraced this idea so after seeing some German Shepherd pups advertised he and his partner drove to Wales to see them. A guy came to the door with 2 pups in hand and said which do you want, the boy or the girl? They chose Kyra but left with concerns and at this point believed her to be around 6 weeks old. A visit to the vets a couple of weeks later and the vet thought she was younger than that.

This is breeding of the worst sort, neither parent of pups were seen and it’s possible that these pups were bought in to make money or even if bred there it was clearly a money making exercise and no papers were available.

Kyra however was very much loved although shy and sometimes reactive but the owner has put in a lot of work and sought advice as to how to help her gain confidence. But then Covid struck and the owner caught it and very unfortunately has been left with long Covid and the plans for hours of walking have now disappeared. He now understandably feels he cannot meet the needs of a young energetic dog.

Kyra was wary of me when I got there but was becoming more relaxed while I was there. She has recently been on a short camping holiday and experienced her first bus ride while away and was beautifully behaved throughout.

We went for a short walk on my visit today and again she was faultless. Kyra would be well suited to someone who has experience of this breed or at the very least to someone who Is empathetic to the poor start that she had as a pup too young to leave its mum. She is not a dog that would be suited to family life but she would love a single person or a couple who love the great outdoors and enjoy the experience of living with one of these highly intelligent dogs. It is also felt that she would be best as an only dog.

Kyra is currently living in Frome and we welcome serious enquiries for this gorgeous girl.
