Also known as “false spider crabs” Thai Micro Crabs are tiny, fully aquatic crabs that so far have only been found in one river in Thailand. They are a new and rare addition to the aquarium hobby, making them difficult to find in any pet store or even online. This is one of the very few types of crab that can live fully immersed in water at all times, so they can be kept in any freshwater aquarium. Due to their small size, these aquatic pets pose little or no threat to most fish or other aquarium inhabitants; however, aggressive fish or animals may come after them. They tend to do great in tanks with dwarf shrimp, such as Neon Yellow Shrimp, Babaulti Shrimp, and Tiger Shrimp, as well as small fish, like the Danio, Rasbora, Neon Tetra, Guppy, Endler, Dwarf Pleco, Cory Catfish, and Scarlet Badis. These crabs are a silver to white color under high quality light and resemble spiders due to their unusually long legs relative to their bodies. They are not prone to climbing out of tanks like other types of crabs, and prefer to stay deep under water without approaching the surface. NOTE: These crabs are EXTREMELY small, so we recommend them for experienced nano aquarists ONLY. This is NOT an aquarium starter kit for beginners! They don’t grow any larger than 1/2 inch in diameter (including their leg-span), making them great for nano aquariums. Their spider-like appearance makes them perfect for tanks with spooky themed decorations and props, such as sugar skull or artificial bone décor. They do best in tanks with plants, décor, or some sort of container, platform, ramp, or shelf that provides cover, as well as substrate or floor bed (such as rocks, mulch, bark, or coconut fiber).
These fully aquatic crabs are not prone to climbing to the aquarium wall or out of top of the tank like Panther Crabs, and usually prefer to stay deep under water without approaching the surface.
